Week 28 Challenge - Summer Fun

Welcome to another Polkadoodles challenge and we have a rather apt theme this week!

Summer Fun

So, lets have a look to see what the Design Team created!

Shell- For my Summer Fun card I have used the beach huts and deck chair combined with papers from the Bonbon Belles CD. I created the clouds with distress inks and a template I made. I coloured the image with promarkers x

Anjie - For my project for Summer Fun I have done something a bit different. I bought this box frame from a local craft shop and decided this would be perfect for what I had in mind. All the elements are from the fabulous new Bonbon Belles CD. I've 3D'd some of the elements and added some real sea shells I have gathered on my travels.

 Lizzie - I have used the new CD Bonbon Belles to make my card. Again I have gone for a CAS card. I used the elements from the CD for the Ice creams, cherries and strawberries ! I printed another set of images off and cut them out using 3D foam to give dimension. I glittered up the ice-creams with stickles glitter glue.

JAN:  Oh I'm in love with the new Bonbon Belles CD, so out it came for my card this week. The papers are from the lush 'Chocolate Lime' section and images are all from the CD with a few real shells for extra embellishment!

Kim - For my card I've used the fabulous Bonbon Belles CD as when I think of summer fun, I think of 'beach' and these beach huts are just fantastic! I've used three different images of the huts, together with a deckchair! The gorgeous cloud backing paper is also from the cd, as is the stripy paper and that lovely bunting! 

Lou: For my card, I have also used the beach huts from the new Bonbon Belles CD. I have also written this weeks tutorial about how I made my card using my "Word" package on my computer to create a single layer card .......however ....... I have also HAD TO make my card more 3D and add a few layers with some fussy cutting too!!!

Ruth:  I've gone for a simple yet cheeky number!  Made with my own template (the trick to get the two sides to balance is to draw it once and then draw round it on the other side!) with papers from the brand new Paper and Pen Circle 8 magazine plus ribbons and seed beads from my stash.  For another view of the card - pop over to my blog!

Vintage Lacy Background Tutorial

Hi there, it's Fliss here with the details on how I made the pretty lacy look background for my challenge card this week.
As I really love stamping, what else could I do to make my background and it's really easy when you know how so now's the time to grab a cuppa and read on.

Step 1

It's best to use watercolour paper for this technique as you need something sturdy that won't buckle. Cut a piece that will fit your chosen card blank. The lovely flourish stamp I've used is my favourite from the Daisy Doodle stamp set and I've used Ranger Distress Embossing Ink as it stays wet for a long time. My paper is 8x8 and I stamped the image in the corners first then twice in between and heat embossed the images with the white detail powder. If you want to make a smaller card such as 6x6, you'll probably need to stamp just once between the corners. I've added a bit of colour from the next step so you can see the embossing.

Step 2

 Using a craft sheet (or a plastic clipboard as I do), apply a large patch of Victorian Velvet Distress ink and spray with a little water. Using a fairly large paint brush, add a wash all over the over the top of the embossing which will resist the colour.

Step 3

Deepen the colour by applying a further wash of Seedless Preserves Distress ink diluted with water spray as before and then add extra colour to the corners by picking up ink direct from the ink pad with a damp brush.

Step 4

Once the paper has dried, you can then give it some shimmer by applying gold liquid pearls over the embossed area using your finger. Just dab on gently and try not to rub too much. It gives a lovely soft sheen to the embossing and softens the colour a little too.

Step 5

To finish the paper off for my card, I added a little extra embossing across the centre using the same stamp and the gold pearl as I found that the lacy effect of the paper looked better without any added embellishing and hope you agree.

  Make Your Own Background

So it's time to dig out those stamps, inks, embossing folders and so on and you only need to look at the fabulously inventive DT samples for some inspiration if you're stuck, or even if you're not!

Fliss - I'm sure you can imagine how much I enjoyed this one and later on today you'll find a tutorial on how I made my background using inks and stamps. I've used the gorgeous debutante image from the Fredericka CD and I paper pieced her frock by printing the image out on to gold velvet paper - I wasn't sure about putting this through the printer but it was fine. The sentiment comes from the CD too.

Sally - Hi for this week's challenge it is "Make your own background" - So I thought how perfect  would it be to use one of the lovely owls on the new Bonbon Belles CD Rom with one of the pretty floral frames. I printed and cut out the image and the frame. I put a piece of cream cardstock through my embossing machine using a wood effect embossing folder.  I then cut to size and used my Pan Pastels over the impression. Matted it on brown and green cardstock and adhered it to the card blank.

I then 3D the frame using my Pinflair gel and popped the little owl behind it. I added some flowers and bling to her headdress and a sentiment.

Bev here, I thoroughly enjoyed making my own background for this card. I used one of the tiny stamps from the Neighbours Stamp range stamped all over my card blank then ran it through an embossing folder and inked the edges. I printed off one of the beautiful images from Candy Doodles CD Rom. cut it out using a scalloped edge die matted it onto a contrasting colour and added a ribbon. The flowers were printed from Candy Doodles CD Rom they were coloured in with alcohol markers to match the image.

Alethea -  I decided to make a boys card for this challenge cos they are cards I am always short of! So I went straight to the Pretty Tuff CD Rom. I designed my own background paper using the ipod image, then printed it out on vellum. I stuck that onto a red cs base... I then cut out a small blue rectangle and rounded the corners and added a black strip for the image to sit on! I then just added some buttons and the sentiment which is also from the Pretty Tuff CD Rom.

Asha - I made a girly card using an image from the BonBon Belles Double CD. For my background I adhered several of the floral elements from this delicious CD and for added sparkle I threw some bling. The sentiment, also from the CD, is perched on a pop-dot.  

Karon - Hmmm!  make your own background eh!  I decided to get some inks and a small butterfly stamp.  I first inked up the background in three shades of ink, that complimented the image; then stamped around the paper with the little butterfly stamp.  The striped paper and the image, Heather - coloured with my alcohol markers - are from the new Bonbon Belles CD.  The sentiment is from the Fairy Flutterfly - Gracie - set.

Claire C. I love to make my own backgrounds so this challenge was right up my street. I decided to alter a mirror and got to work with various acrylic paints and created a messy background. I used images and paper from Pretty Tuff and  added some torn scraps of backing paper with Maimeri gloss gel medium. I coloured the images with Graph'it Markers and added them with gloss medium too. I raided the scrabble for some tiles to add the wording lol

I love making my own backgrounds! I made my sky using Pan Pastels and coloured the grass with my Graph'It markers - so easy and quick! This image is from our new Bonbon Belles collection...

Lidia And for this Challenge I made my background with Studio 12 Stamps I colored my Background with acquarelles and the House is made with the paper piecing technique. Finally I added some glitter in the trees and the little hearts I hope you enjoy making your own background.
