Wk 18.. 5 Year Birthday...SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW...Polkadoodles Challenge

WOOHOOO!! HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY TO US!!

Hi everyone and welcome to May - and the beginning of our Grand 5th Birthday Celebrations! Yes, Polkadoodles was born this week back in 2009 and this month we are celebrating a whole 5 years of crafting inspiration here at PD towers. We have some great things lined up for you so make sure you pop in to see us every Friday during May, we have some little surprises along the way!

So how time has flown - 5 whole years!! Oh my goodness!!

I had a little look back at our first makes from the team the other day and you know what, they still look amazing now! I think this goes to show how our designs are classics and have a real longevity to them and also is testament to the fact that we are always bringing you designs and products which are bang on trend but also very often ahead of the field and it shows how usually we are way ahead of everyone else at spotting what is going to be new. Here we are, still amid a really great frenzy on owls and birds everywhere, yet our very first collections 5 years ago were all about that trend!

Take a look at what the Design Team made this week back in 2009.... awesome huh?
o --------------------------------------------------- o

If you're reading this post and HAVEN"T seen our
then check it out HERE because there is LOADS of candy and freebies up for grabs!! Don't miss it!

Anyway, let's get to challenge business!

So because it's our birthday, we decided to challenge
Something Old, Something New
and this can be almost anything!

You have until 16th May to enter this challenge which will close at noon GMT. You don't have to use our products to enter, but we'd love it if you did. The winner of this challenge will receive a great download bundle which will include 5 of our Work and Play Downloads - great prize and worth £11.00!

So let's see what the Team have for us this week!...

Sally - Hi!  I chose to do a baby pop up box card.  I used the images and papers from Sundae of Seasons CD Rom.  I thought the Teddy image is something old and the New Little Person sentiment represented the Something new!
Scatty Jan I loved making up my card , our challenge to use something old and new certainly got me thinking but it was very easy really as lots of the Polkadoodles CD's and collections work well together, I am often taking bits and bobs from one and matching them in with another.  I adore the new Work and Play collection 3 so chose to work with the Ticket master and the lush Fence from there. The Ticket Master I coloured with the love of my life Graph'It Markers. For my old I used the Pretty Tuff CD and used the train, joined 2 together and flipped them round xx
Karon - What a challenge for us this week - Something Old and Something New.  I decided to use a lovely image from the older CD Love and Cherish collection - and then used papers from the fabulous new Work and Play Collection 2.  The image is coloured up and then layered onto the fabulous papers.
Claire C I've made an easel card using one of the fab new characters from Work and Play collection 3, coloured with Graph'It Markers. The Caravan is one of the the gorgeous precoloured embellies from the same collection and used one of my old favourite backing papers from Candy Doodles Collectors Edition CD

Great inspiration from the team and a great theme! Remember, this week it's
Something Old, Something New
and this can be almost anything - you can put your own spin on it!

You have until 16th May to enter this challenge which will close at noon GMT. You don't have to use our products to enter, but we'd love it if you did, just please follow our simple rules and add your entry to Mr Linky below!

Well done everyone and don't forget your blinkies.

Now for our fabulous DT inspiration.

Anjie - On my card this week the image is from the new Work and Play 2 CD, as are the papers. I have added some die cuts and flowers from my stash. I have used a red distress ink on the die cuts and bottom flower. I have used the Dutch Doobadoo Mask/Stencil Art A5 - Flower Swirl to create the embossed panel behind the image.

The image is coloured with Graph'It Markers and the colours I used are:
Skin: 4115, 4155, 4170, 4175, 4135
Hair: 1210, 1230, 1250, 3110, 3180
Apron: 9503, 9504, 9505
Reds: 5210, 5215, 5220

Karon - Hi everyone.  I dream of Spring at the moment, loads of snow still on the ground here in Canada. However, being able to play with these fabulous CD's this week, really cheered me up.  I decided to use the Bird house template off the Candy Doodles Collection CD.  My papers and the birdies are from the Love and Cherish CD.  I added a picket fence, after all every house should have a white picket fence and some butterflies; these are from the Sundae of Seasons CD.  More details are my blog :-)

Kerrie - I got quite a bit excited about the Spring Theme of this challenge and started thinking of Daisies and Yellow which are two things I love about the Season. Ive made an Easel card with a set of Drawers underneath. I chose to use the CDrom 'Sundae of Seasons', I love the Ragdoll Characters from the collection and all the fun Images. All the Papers and Embellishments are from the same CDrom too. I just had to use these cute Bee's and Daisies. I've mixed it up with the Dutch Doobadoo Honeycomb Mask. More details about my Project are over on my Blog xx

JAN - I used one of my all time favourite CDs this time to create my Spring themed card. All papers, image and elements are from the 'Sugarplum Daisy CD' with a little added ribbon, a die-cut and some flowers for extra embellishment.

Claire C - I've used the gorgeous singer from the new Work and Play collection 1, the sentiment and backing paper are from the same cd - soooooo pretty . The image is coloured with Graph'It Markers and I've added lots of flowers, lace and ribbon from my stash

Sally - My card today hasn't any characters as I decided to do this lovely little flower pot card made from plain cardstock and papers from the Sugar Plum Daisy CD Rom.  I cut out a template for the card and matted one of the papers on the front. I then cut out a border to go around the flower put to keep it together, I then added a tag and bow.  I then cut out some cream card and matted it on the brown cardstock for the flower tag.  I stamped Happy Mother's Day at the bottom and then added my punched out flowers from the two background papers, added little buttons for the centres. I also die cut a flowery twine and cut it in half and put it at the back of the flowers.  I really love how this has turned out.

You have until Friday 4th April at noon GMT to enter - click HERE to take you to Mr Linky.

Only a few rules for you to remember
1. No Backlinks
2. Please follow the challenge theme!

Week 10 Polkadoodles Challenge - MUM's THE WORD

Oh my goodness, can you believe it?  We are already into March - where are the months going?!

And of course it's Friday and we have a new challenge for you, for this fortnight.
Our theme this time around is
Mum's the Word
Mother's Day is sneaking up on us here in the UK, but you don't have to do a Mother's Day card, it could be a card for your Mums birthday, or your Grandma.  Let's see what you come up with this time.
Remember you don't have to use one of our products to enter but we'd love it if you did and you have until 21st March to enter!

Don't forget Polkadoodles has a fantastic new collection available and shipping now which might also be great for this theme! It's an absolute snip at only £8.99!
The prize for this fortnights challenge, Mum's the Word, is a copy of this fantastic collection! Wow!

The winner and top 3 from our Week 7 Challenge Love/Romance, can be found at the end of this post.  But first we have some wonderful DT creations for your inspiration.

Alethea - Well it's not even close to Mother's Day here in Australia so I am going to be well prepared this year...LOL! I have made a Mother's Day card using papers and elements from Bonbon Belles Double cd. And this fab image Dollie Daydream - Bouquet digi  is one of the new Dollie Daydream images which I coloured in with tria markers.
Zoe - We had this photo taken at my parent's Ruby Wedding anniversary meal and I love it, so it was a perfect choice for me to create a scrapbook layout for this 'Mum' challenge. I used the gorgeous Studio 12 Picknix collection 1 (mainly the home set) I took the images into Serif Craftartist to create this layout using background papers, embellishments (our fav things - coffee, cake & chocolate!) and a frame. I've saved it as a JPEG so that I can then print it out at my leisure to put into my memory book.
Karon - Well, with Mother's Day coming up - what a fabulous challenge to set.  I chose to use one of the characters from the Bonbon Belles collection.  The frame, character (pre-coloured) and sentiment are from this wonderful double CD and I decided to make a shaped easel card.  The little floral paper is from the Sugar Birdies CD.
JAN - I decided to go a little different this time and make a word book for 'Mum' using the lettering template from the 'Candy Doodles CD'.  I used papers and images from the 'Cherryblossom Lane CD' to embellish, along with a few bits from my stash.
Claire C I've used one of my favourite images from Dollie Daydream Girl Talk Collection, coloured with Graph'It Markers. The dp is also from the same collection.
Asha - My card is a demo on the versatility of Polka Doodles products. I made this Mother's Day card - a commission from my 4 year old Goddaughter. In her words, she describes her mummy as "soft and cuddly, warm like the sun and prettier than all the flowers in the garden". Tall order, but I found all I needed from various CDs: Bunny and ticket tags from Cherryblossom Lane, background paper from Bonbon Belles, vertical floral panel from Sugar Birdies and the layered blossom from Dolly Daydream Girl Talk. Don't they all work together in perfect harmony?
Kerrie With Mother's Day in a few weeks this Challenge is just right - I've used Papers and Digi Image (coloured with alcohol markers) from Digi Stamp Heaven - Fredericka CDrom I just love the Images on this CDrom and the soft tones in the Papers are so so gorgeous. I have chosen Sentiments for this card using Dollie Daydream Goes East CDrom I love the phrases and words on there. The Lettering I have cut out using an electric Machine but using the Papers again for perfect colour matching. I like to mix and match between the CDrom's by Polkadoodles as they are all so versatile.
Sally - This weeks challenge is Mums the Word!  So I used my Picknix Collection1 CD Rom for a digitally crafted card this week.  I took the Welcome Home Section into My Craft Studio and chose all my papers and embellishments to create this card.  I am really pleased how it turned out.

Aren't they fabulous creations!

You can see the winners of our last challenge from Week 6 at the bottom of this post, but let's see what the team have made for you this week...

Karon - I decided to use the lemonade stand from the In the Garden section of the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1CD.  I made a shaped card by sizing the pre-coloured digi of the lemonade stand, layered it up to add dimension.  The boy and girl pre-coloured images, and the sentiment, are from the Sundae of Seasons CD.
Zoe - I instantly thought of the colour palette when I saw this challenge so decided to colour an image I hadn't attempted before, this Daisy Lady (as I call her) is from the gorgeous Double Sprinkle of Kraft CD. I coloured her with a mix of markers including the fabulous Graph It's. Once finished I decided to keep it simple. I added a few flowers and some candi. I wanted to keep this card for any occasion so didn't put a sentiment on it deliberately.
Sally - For this week's project I have made my step-granddaughter's birthday card. I took the image from Dollie Daydreams goes East CD Rom and coloured her with Graph'it markers. Then I took a backing paper and the alphabet into my graphic programme and made the card base. I then matted it onto black cardstock. I then matted the image on black cardstock also. Die cut out some cherry blossom and branches and then printed a sentiment scroll.  I love how this has turned out. I hope she loves it too.
Asha - I'm using a girlie rubber stamp called "Gracie"  from Polka Doodle's Fairy Flutterby series for my Sugar and Spice project. I coloured her with Graph It and Promarkers. I stamped the butterfly from the Gracie set on vellum, heat embossed it in white and used it as wings for Gracie. The background paper is from the Bonbon Belles Double CD and the flower is from the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD. And voila! A sweet birthday card for a little girl.
JAN - I used one of my favourite Polkadoodles CDs - 'Candy Doodles' to make my card this week. The Sugar & Spice theme made me think of sugared almonds - hence the colour scheme. The little girl is coloured to match using my Promarkers and I made the tickets, using a blank one and adding my own wording to match the theme.
Alethea - When I think of sugar and spice I automatically think of yummy cakes and slices. So I made this card using one giant cupcake from the Cherryblossom Lane cd collection and Dollie Daydream - Birthday digistamp which I coloured with tria markers! I then just added a few embellishments to finish off the card and the Polka Doodles birthday wishes sentiment from the Sensational Sentiments stamp set.
Kerrie - Wow I have really enjoyed the Theme this week - 'Sugar & Spice' - for this I chose to decorate a Notebook to make myself a Recipe Book and decided to use the 'Sundae of Seasons' CDrom as I really love all the baking themed Embellishments and the Ragdoll charaters. The only things that were added not from the CDrom were Mirror Board & Gems from my Stash and the Notebook of course. I coloured the Digi Image from CDrom using alcohol markers.
Claire C - I've used precoloured decoupage images from one of my favourite Polkadoodles CDs, Candy Doodles, I've added glitter, glossy accents and faux pearls to the cupcakes and added some of Nikky's fab ticket sentiments to finish off
Fantastic inspiration from the team as always!

Our Week 6 Randomly chosen winner is

** Dollie Daydream Goes East CD Collection

Here is what the fabulous DT have to offer you for inspiration this week!.....

JAN:  Well, if it isn't a card it seems to be a tag these days! I love them - here's what I did with the fabulous new 'Dollie Daydream goes East' collection. Everytime Nikky designs a new collection, I think it's my favourite - but I really fell in love with this one. All papers and elements are printed from the CD and Dollie is coloured with my Promarkers to co-ordinate with the lanterns - don't you just love the tiny little scroll!

Asha - The brief for the DT this week is to show a little oriental love but not in a card. Perfect! I went ahead and made this money / gift voucher wallet... who says money can't buy you love! This image is just one of the many gorgeous ones found in the Dolly Daydream Goes East Download Collection. I coloured the little dollie with Graph It and Promarkers. The backing paper is soooo lush, you really don't need (or want) to over-embellish. I just used some sheer lilac ribbon for the belly band.

Bev here with  a lovely bottle tag (my own design) made using the fabulous new Dollie Daydream Goes East CD. The  tag itself is printed using the lush backing papers, I added a sentiment in my graphics programme before cutting out. I decorated it with one of the beautiful digi stamps that I coloured in with Graph'it Markers adding a flower and die cut foliage. It makes a lovely little finishing touch to a bottle/gift.

Sally - Well how cute is this?  This little box is on the template section of the Dollie Daydreams Gone East CD Rom.  I printed the template onto cardstock, then printed the backing paper over the top, cut it out and put it together.  I need a flower or some thing for the top, so I cut out two of the flowers from the backing paper and then added a button for the centre and then a sentiment.

Alethea - I can't seem to get into the whole love thing I guess cos I have been single so long :) but I do love the new  Dollie Daydream Goes East cd. I decided to put together this fan using the template from the  Dollie Daydream Goes East cd. I printed the papers (which are also from the  Dollie Daydream Goes East cd) first then printed the template on top of that! I needed to incorporate love somehow so ended up printing the word "love" (also from the Dollie Daydream Goes East cd) onto one of the fan sections. I then printed off one of the Oriental girls and I think this is the first time in a very long time that I actually coloured in the image myself!
 View of the fan closed
View of the fan opened
Karon - Well we are all in love with this fabulous new collection - Dollie Daydream Goes East.  I decided to make an Oriental Valentines banner :-)  All the elements are from this fabulous CD.

Anjie - It's not my turn for the Polka Doodles challenge this week but I'm having so much fun with the new Dollie Daydream Goes East CD Collection that I thought I'd gate crash! This box folds flat to fit in an envelope and is so eye catching, I just love it! Everything I have used on it comes from the CD.

Kerrie - Oh Wow!!! I love this 'Dollie Goes East' CDrom collection and when I saw the theme of this Challenge I was very pleased the DT have been challenge to 'Oriental Love' but not a Card eeeek!! So I had a think of what I could make and decided on an upcyle project a pot for some of my fave pens using a famous crisps mini-tub and then I wanted to make a tag to go with it. I have used Papers, Embellishments, Digi's, Sentiment, Build-a-Fleurs and Letter Tiles from the CDrom.

WOW!! AMAZING makes from the team this week I'm sure you'll agree!!

So the winner this week drawn by Random Org is...

#27 - Mags

Wk 5 Digi Choosday...Anything Goes/Shopaholics

Morning everyone and welcome to another Digi Choosday challenge!

Before we get to this week's challenge we have some great news - we have released our latest Dollie character as a new digi stamp range so you can now purchase these lovely digi stamps separately to the CD collections! You can either purchase in the Polkadoodles digistore or in our new Etsy store. So you can now buy our new range which includes this lovely digi...

Also, don't forget that you can catch Nikky on Create and Craft TV this Friday with another Graph'It colouring show - so we hope you can tune in!

We are also still looking for another new teamie here at Digi Choosday so if you love to use Digis then get in touch with us here and tell us why you'd like to be on the team with us!

So let's get on with the challenge - as always it's
Anything Goes
with a
Shopaholic twist for the Design Team, and boy o boy have they come up with some great ideas for us this week!

We have a little change to our challenge today as we have decided to extend our entry dates for you all - so from now on you will have THREE WEEKS TO ENTER the challenge! Woohoo! That means it's not quite such a rush for you all hopefully! So you have until Tues 25th Feb to enter this challenge and the winner will get a fabulous download collection and our Top 3 will also win a download too! The winner of this challenge will be announced in our post on 4th March!

So let's see what the team have made - you can see last time's winners below the post!

Zoe - So challenged to do 'Shopaholics' I instantly thought of my time in Paris (2011) & the ultimate shoe choice (though I confess they are not mine, I merely got to try them on!). I used this fabulous digi from the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk collection as a main image on this Smash Book double page spread. I coloured the image with Graph It markers which I also used to create the dotty background behind her. I added journaling, a postcard and photos to document my memories. I often use digi images on different projects as I reckon they add personality!

Anjie - On my card the image, papers, flowers and sentiments are all from the Dollie Daydream BONUS EDITION Girl Talk BCD Collection. I have coloured the image with Graph'It Markers and added a bow, some die cuts and some hat pins. I think the black card behind the papers and image really brings out the papers. When cutting out the flowers from the build-a-fleur section I always leave a white border around them to make them pop out more as well.
Scatty Jan For my project today I have used the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk  collection and made a little show shop - this collection is perfect for those girly projects xx

Jo- I love the shop images on the Dollie Daydream cd, I had to colour one in for this weeks challenge. I cut out a scallop shaped card on my cameo and added one of the backing papers also on the cd. I added gems to embellish it and hot pink ribbon just because ;) I think this card would be perfect as a gift card holder :)

Susan -For this weeks challenge I have used  Dollie Daydream Collection.
The paper ,sentiment, and embellishments are all from the collection and the bag was cut out on my cameo ,rose and bow from stash

Sally - Hello, It's Digi Choosday!  Today, I decided to do a gift bag. I took backing papers and a image from the Dollie Daydream CD Rom into my Craft Artist programme and put the image together.  I then printed it off, matted it onto some turquoise cardstock and adhered it to the paper bag.  I then printed off some build your own flowers and sentiments also from the CD rom. Cut the flowers out and put them together and added a button. Then added the sentiments.  There it is, a lovely gift bag.

What great inspiration for us!

So, onto last time's winners from Week 3 which, chosen by our Random.org generator was
No 10 Mirella - well done!

Wk4...Digi Choosday Challenge - Anything Goes/In the Pink

Happy Tuesday everyone and we all hope you're having a great crafty week!

Let's get straight to the good stuff today....
We have a special offer code
for you this week for the Download Store - use code DCw440 at the checkout and you will save a massive 40% off all our digi products - woohoo! The code ends midnight on 2nd Feb so make sure you grab some lovely digis to work with!

We also have THE most stunning new addition to our CD collections this week - I am not usually a big fan of Oriental designs so I've always steered well clear of this genre but I had a little spark of an idea over Christmas when I saw a particular colour palette and so I got to work on Oriental with a Polkadoodles twist. Now, if you don't like Oriental either, I think this might change your mind! A gorgeous colour palette and stunning images and papers in this collection - we are all going WILD for it on the Design Team!

Obviously Valentine's is on it's way too and we have some brand new and yummy Emma Canning digis up for grabs too - Emma's designs are so cute! Check them out here!

So let's get on with the Challenge this week. As always our challenge is
ANYTHING GOES
but we always challenge the Design Team with something special, so this week they had to go with
IN THE PINK
and boy, did they come up with some lovely makes as usual!

Don't forget you DO NOT need to use any Polkadoodles stash to enter because it's Anything Goes here, but PLEASE do not enter more than twice! We pick a random winner so to make it fair if you add more than this you will not be counted!!!

You can see the winners of our last challenge at the bottom of this post.

Let's see what the team made this week....

Zoe -  Challenged to be 'In The Pink' I took this very literally and used a bold shade to colour this gorgeous Dollie Daydream Girlie Talk  character using a mix of markers including Graph It's.  I coordinated the ribbon and ticket sentiments by colouring them to match with my markers. A simple embossed background set it all off.

Scatty Jan  I have made a card using lots of girly accessories from Dolly Daydream CD - there is so very much to choose from on there - its hard to decide which of the yumminess to use. I changed my mind so much xx
Debbi -Dollie is certainly 'In the Pink' on this card. I used the gorgeous new 'Dollie Daydream - Girl Talk' cd collection to make my card. I love that it has flowers that you can cut out a shape. I used the spiral roses and daisies...cute!! And Dollie is of course there looking very pretty in her pink dress :)
Anjie -  Instead if just doing a card with pink papers I thought I'd go with pink hair as well! The image, papers, sentiments and build a fleur are from the Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD. The image is coloured with Graph'It Markers. I have made some rolled roses from the same papers and added a few die cuts.
The Graph'It's I used are:
Skin: 4115, 4155, 4170, 4175
Hair: 5110, 5180, 7150, 7155, 7160
Clothes: 9107, 9106, 9105, 9104, 9103

Sally - Hi, Its in the Pink week!  So I thought I would use one of Emma Canning's new images, this cute little teddy! I coloured him pink, using my Graph'it markers and cut him out. I used a digi from a polkadoodle bundle and used my Pan Pastels to soften the edges. Mounted it on black card stock and then embossed white card with my button folder and then used my Pan Pastels in pink to enhance the designs. Then matted it on black cardstock.  Added a flower and buttons to finish the card. Cute eh?
Susan. This week I thought it would be nice to think of Spring for a change to all this wet and windy weather. So I have used every thing from Cherryblossom Lane ,this is such a sweet CD and so much to choose from and it could be that its on SALE!

So there's the inspiration for today!
