Tutorial: Pocket gift card

Hi there !!! Lizzie here with my first ever tutorial.
I made a card that's a pocket gift card,
under the flap is a little pocket to pop in some money,
a voucher or a store gift card.
I used all papers and images from the CD Sugar Plum Daisy

You will need
1 x A3 sheet white card
4 x A4 printed sheet and 4 contrasting plain sheets card
Double sided tape,
Edge punch of your choice, ribbon

This is VERY easy to make but please forgive the long "how to" !!

TO MAKE THE MAIN BODY OF THE CARD
As its difficult to cut A3 sized card I made my card in the following way.
Take the A3 sheet and cut 3" off the shorter side( A4 side).

From the right hand side (along the A4 side)
Score 2.5" - this will be the flap of the pocket.
From that score line score 5.5"
Fold along both lines so the smaller piece is inside.
You should now have a 5.5" long length of card !
While it is folded. Along the long side cut 5.5"
You should now have a 5.5" square card, with flap for the pocket.
There is enough left to cut another from the folded card.

TO MAKE THE WRAP AROUND
Take the 3" piece of white card you cut off the A3 sheet
This is going to be the wrap around the card.
I used a Martha Stewart punch to edge mine.
Now score 4 10/16" from the left and  1.5" from the right.
Take a contrasting colour card and patterned paper.
Cut the card 12 10/16" x 2 2/16"
Cut the paper 12 10/16" x 1 14/16"
so that they layer nicely on the white card.
widths may be different with different use of edge punches.

TO MAKE THE LAYERS FOR THE MAIN BODY OF THE CARD
Cut 4 x 5 1/4" x5 1/4" squares of the contrasting card (mine is purple)
Cut 4 x 5" x 5" sqaures of patterned paper
For the pocket:
Cut 1 x 2 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of contrasting card
Cut 1 x 2" x 5" piece of patterned paper

Layer up all the pieces and attach the two of the squares to the inside of the card.
Put a thin strip of double sided tape on the inside of the pocket

Stick down the to squares for what will be the front and back of the card
and the piece for the outside of the pocket.

Fold over the pocket flap and stick into position.

Along the back of the card attach the warp in place.

Along the back of the card again put a piece of double sided tape

Attach a piece of ribbon long enough to wrap around the card and tie in a bow.

Turn it all over, fold together, add your money, etc into the pocket
and tie the ribbon in place.
You can now either leave it as is or embellish the outer more.

Hope you like it !

Studio 12 - multiple folds

Hi everyone, Lou here with a Studio 12 project using the fabby Picknix Vol 1 CD ... which is on SALE at the moment over at the Polka Doodles shop.

I decided to make a card using multiple folds which was secured by ribbon but could also stand independently with just the front fold. I know, it sounds bizarre but really does work .... promise! Please note that this is quite a picture heavy post.

The front of my card which the ribbon bow ...

The inside showing the 1st sentiment panel

My card opened showing all the folds and panels.

I have used Serif Craft Artist to create my sentiment frames but all the other elements have been printed from the CD. What I nornmally do is either open a word document and put all my images on to one page (sizing them at the same time) or alternatively use Craft Artist to do the same thing. You can export any of your finished pages from Craft Artisit in to either a JPG or PDF format for future use so you don't have to then keep oopening Craft Artist to action your designs.

To see more of my card, there are additional photos on my blog which can be found HERE.

Have a great Sunday everyone,

Lou

Studio 12 - Its all in a name

Hello !! Lizzie here, this is my first post for Studio 12
so I hope you lke it !
This framed name picture was made
by using the alphabet and butterflies from Picknix 1 CD.
I used a frame I got from the car boot cheap,
cover the marks with butterflies !
Added flowers and glittered them with my Stickles!
(I had to use these to cover up a join line in the paper ...
the frame was a little larger than the paper, but it works !
I used my Marianne die for the leaves.

It was propped up ready to be photographed when Caitlyn came home
and she just went WOW !
So glad she likes it !! Pink really isn't her colour !!
happy crafting !

Tutorial : Use a die cut with a twist!

Good morning, Polka Doodles fans! Miria here with a tutorial, it's my first one here, please, be patient :)

This week's challenge theme, chosen by lovely Patty, is "To die for" and this is my DT card.

As you can see, I used gorgeous Anja from Fredericka Collection . I wanted to cut my image with a framelit and  let her wavy hair out of the scalloped edge.

The first step is to choose your image - this one is precoloured, if you use a black and white one colour it first - and a framelit that fits it.

Put the framelit on your image like this with some removable tape and draw the inside and outside line with a pencil.

Cut with your scissors the areas you want to leave outside the scallop . Put the framelit back where it was before using the tape again and cut it through your cutting machine

Here's your image  ready. Easy, isn't it?

Here's another picture of my card ...

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial, thank you for your attention, Miria

This week's challenge is To Die For so you need to create something using dies or a die cutting machine if you're lucky enough to own one.

Now for some fabulous inspiration from the Design Team which you're going to love!

Asha - I made a quick and easy card using the pre-coloured image of Libby the gypsy from the Fredericka Mini CD Collection. This CD has an amazing collection of papers and images - perfect for teens and young adults. A few Spellbinder dies, some bling and this card is on its way to the birthday girl.

Anjie for this weeks challenge I have  made something a little bit different. I came across a canvas clock that was on sale for £2 and of course as soon as I saw it I knew it had to be Polkadoodled!
All the papers and alphabet are from the fabulous Studio 12 CD-rom Picknix Collection 1. I've cut the paper into squares and cut out the alpha and inked the edges of everything with a distress ink. I've used dies to cut out the flowers, the clock and some cogs. I glued everything in place then used some Dylusions ink through a mask. Then I added some white faux stitching. I then sealed it with some matte gel. It is going to be hung in our new extension behind the bar.

Karon - All my papers this week are from the All Around and Everywhere CD this CD is full of fabulous papers and some rather elegant ones too.  My flower, from the Cherryblossom Lane CD, is layered three times to give it a little depth and a pearl dot added to the centre.  The die cuts (Spellbinders) are layered beneath the flower.  I stamped a little bit of fabric ribbon with a sentiment from Fairy Flutterfly - Meeshelle.

Fliss - I'm loving colouring up the images on the gorgeous Fredericka mini CD and have made a patchwork style card as I love faux stitching. I printed out the cute image on to thick cartridge paper and coloured her with Aquamarkers. I die cut the image to an oval panel and made faux stitching with a paper piercer and a brown fine pen. I assembled the elements on a scalloped card blank embellishing with a die cut doily and flower (Marianne Design) and butterfly and finished off with a ticket sentiment.

Alethea -  I was going through all my Polka Doodle CD rom's and found this gorgeous little girl on the Double Sprinkles of Kraft CD ROM. I know I use a lot of pre-coloured images but it allows me more time to spend on creating a beautiful card!! The papers are from the same CD Rom as is the sentiment!! I then added the border die and the flower that came from that and the die cut butterflies. And of course finished it off with rhinestones and kindyglitz!!

Miria I made a birthday card using lovely Anya from Fredericka cd . I die cut the precoloured image, you'll find a tutorial on this blog to see how I made it; the paper and sentiment are from Candy Doodles Collectors' edition, just added some punched flowers and half pearls

Patty - I used papers from Sugarplum Daisy CD and the Owl Girly images is from Sugar Birdies CD. I combined them with Instand Photo Die and some cut flowers also using my dies. I added some wiggle eyes to her and some ribbon to match the bow on the box.
I love the outcome of this card because of the great combination of all the elements and the lovely owly girl which was perfect for this card and color combination.

Sally - Hi there folks.  This week's challenge.  I have used one of the images from the Fredericka CD and coloured her in with my Graph 'It Markers and Promarkers. I made a groovy union jack flag from papers from my crafty stash and used a die cut flourish and sentiment to finish the card.

Lizzie - I made my card shape using my Spellbinder dies. The image is actually two images merged together from the amazing Fredericka CD. Papers and sentiment are also from the CD.
For my flowers I used a Marianne die LR0111, the leaves and swirl are also Marianne dies are
I edged them with distress inks and added stickles glitter for some pizzaz!

Lidia - And for this challenge I used the gorgeous Fredericka CD and made a 7 x 7 " Mini Album. I used Sizzix and Spellbinders dies and the paper is from the Cherryblossom Lane CD that has many beautiful papers!

You have until 12 noon GMT on Sunday 2 June to enter and good Luck!

Tag your greeting

Hello everyone its Dee here with the post for today.  I have a lovely card for you made with the Studio 12 Picknix 1 CD.  The papers and elements are all from the Welcome Home collection.  The only bits I've added are cardstock, garden twine and small paper roses, and I inked all the edges with a Tea Dye Distress inkpad.  The ribbon and string running across the backing paper are a part of the paper, I simply cut along the edge of the ribbon with a craft knife and slipped my topper under it to make it look like its a separate piece.
As an extra I have a card made with the Polkadoodles Missy stamp set.  Nikky has put this set down to a very special price for a limited time so check it out, it really is a silly price so grab it while you can. The papers are from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD.

Tomorrow sees the new challenge post so make sure you check out all the wonderful makes from the design team.

Studio 12: You are Sew Sweet!

Hi, Miria here. This is my new project for Studio 12. I made a card using images, paper and sentiment from cd Picknix Collection 1.
Just for a change, I printed buttons on fabric with freezer paper, then I cut them out and adhere to an embossed and distressed card.

I made a background with the papers, added the sentiment, some buttons, a die cut heart, a needle and a pin.

Here's a closer view ...

Hope you like it. Wishing you a very creative Sunday, Miria.

Right, onto the challenge for this week and the theme is:

Spring Colours / Pastels

Please don't forget our rules and good luck - the challenge ends on Sunday 26 May at 12noon GMT!

Ruth:  I've made a calorie free cupcake with papers from the Fredericka cd!  The sentiment is from the Cherry Blossom Lane cd and I've inked it and then added it to the front of the cupcake with embroidery threads from my stash.

Lou: I wanted to use something different as my focal point on my card this week, so I decided to use the ticket sentiments from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD. I printed out the tickets and then fed them through my printer again with different pastel shaded papers from the same CD. I have layered some of the tickets to add depth. Finally I added a central strip of card, ribbon and pom poms and in the centre, I have added a layered topper with a further ticket and additional letter stickers. As a little extra (!), I have added some pastel coloured blooms.

Margaret - I have been dying to use some papers I printed out when I first got the cherryblossom lane CD so my card has been made up using papers from that cd and an image from candy doodles.  The flowers and corner are Marianne design dies and the circle is a spellbinder die a few pearls, and some pan pastels

Anjie - for my project this week I have decorated a bag. My beautiful Niece Daisy is expecting a baby in October and I am buying and stocking up on baby toiletries for her, well everyone always buys clothes so I like to buy things I know will be useful. So I have made this gift bag to give her them in.

The image and papers are from the fabulous Fredericka CD. If you like these images but don't like CD crafting you can now also buy them as digital downloads which you can find here or as pre-printed images in a pack. You can also buy the papers as a paper stack. You can find them all here. I have coloured the image with Graph It Markers and used chalks to create the background. The sentiment is a Studio 12 stamp which you can find here, isn't it just perfect for this! I've added some Marianne D die cuts and some lace from my stash.

Kim - I've made what I describe as a 'CrissCross Gift Card' using papers and topper from the Cherryblossom Lane cd.  I think it's a nice way to give a little gift or a voucher!  A tutorial for how I made this is on this blog!

Pinky - made an 8x8 card using papers and sentiment from Cherryblossom Lane Cd. The butterfly is also from there and I have coloured it with promarkers and punched some tiny butterflies which I also coloured with promarkers and added some glitter. The ribbon is from my stash.

Lizzie - I decided to use this lovely paper from the  Cherry Blossom Lane CD to cover some boxes to make a desk tidy. I used a Punch to make the edges look pretty, and added some ribbon!

JAN:  I was inspired by our Dee on last week's Polkadoodles show and loved the project that she demonstrated - so here's my version using pretty 'Spring' colours. All the papers, image and sentiment are from the fab 'Sugarplum Daisy CD'

Shell-For my pretty pastel card  I have used papers and image from the Fredericka collection. the image is coloured with copics and I used a few dies to complete the card.

Anne -  I printed my paper from  Pen and Paper kit 5, to make the little gift bag and paper for the gift tag.
The cute honey bee and sentiment are from the Sugarplum Fairy CD.  Quick and simple:)

Good luck with the challenge and don't forget our rules - the challenge closes at noon GMT on Sunday 26 May!
