Week 15 Challenge - April Showers

Good morning everyone and welcome to a new challenge at Polka Doodles. We hope you're all having a good week and surviving the still rather chilly temperatures. It certainly doesn't feel like April in the UK, more like February!

Before we get to the challenge inspiration, we need to announce the winners from the Week 13 Paper Piecing - there were loads of fabulous entries as always which made it very hard for the DT but there can only be 3 winners and here they are:

1st Place - Debbie S - you win a  Sugar Birdies CD and please use the code PD1W1513 to claim your prize
2nd Place - Olivia - you win a Download and please use the code PD2W1513
3rd Place - Cass - you also win a Download and please use the code PD3W1513

Congratulations to you all.  Please email Nikky and don't forget to quote your winners code - we cannot release prizes without it!

We have a few little rules which makes our life a lot easier when we come visiting your blog:

1.  Please follow the challenge theme!
2.  Only enter your creation into a maximum of 10 challenges including Polkadoodles
3.  Please link your blog post and not your blog address with the linky tool - this saves us from searching your blog for your entry
4.  And please, no back-linking to previous posts - these will be disregarded from our top three voting
5.  If you have word verification on your blog it really does slow us down when leaving comments - please consider turning off word verification especially as the comment moderation has a spam section.

This week's challenge is to make a project inspired by April Showers and as you'll see, the Design Team have cooked up some fabulous creations for you. There are some fantastic prizes this week too as the winner will receive the new Emma Canning CD and the 2 runners up an Emma Canning Download.

Astrid - This time I made a Gabble Box in pink. The digi is from the CD Love and Cherish. This cutie image has an umbrella and its raining lovely hearts. I coloured her with my copic markers. The paper is from the CD All Around and Everywhere. Flowers and lace are from my stash along with the pearls.

Fliss - I've made my card with this sweet digital image from Emma Canning called Rainy Days. You can buy her as a single image HERE or as part of the new Digistamp Heaven CD which has loads of Emma's images and some sentiments which you can find HERE (fabulous value too!). I printed her out on to thick cartridge paper and coloured her with a mix of Aquamarkers with added pencil detail. The papers are from the Cherryblossom Lane CD and I added loads of faux stitching detail and some inking for added definition. Cute, huh?

Asha - I made this card for my friend, who spent most of this year complaining about the weather. Here's a cheeky number for her birthday using this cute digi called Rainy Day by Emma Canning, which I coloured using alcohol markers. With an a blender pen I hit her brolly with great big blobs of rain! The patterned papers are from Love and Cherish and Sugar Birdies CDs. Some lace and bling complete this card.

Karon - I too have used the Emma Canning image called Rainy Days - great minds think alike :-)  My striped paper is from the new Frederika CD, the spotted paper and sentiment are both from the Double Sprinkle of Kraft CD, and the clouds are from the Studio 12 CD - Picknix Collection 1.  I inked all the layers with a blue ink, including the clouds.  Coloured the image with alcohol markers.

Miria Another quick and easy card! I used a coloured digi from cd Cherryblossom Lane, the paper and bumting are from the same cd. I die cut an aperture and adhered acetate to it. The sentiment is from Candy Doodles Collectors' Edition; I added buttons and washi tape to embellish.

Sally - Hi there.  This weeks challenge I have used an image from the Sugar Plum Daisy CD Rom
I mounted her on some red cardstock and inked the edges with a black Promarker. I printed out two background papers from the Sugar Plum Daisy CD Rom and mounted the blue on red and edged the red paper in black. Added some ladybirds, sentiment (also from the CD Rom) and a swirly die cut. This little card would brighten any rainy day.

Alethea - I've gotta say, this turned out better than I had imagined!! I used papers from the All Around and Everywhere CD. I used a pre-coloured image of Noah from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD Rom and I added some sparkle to his umbrella. I then added the pre-coloured rainbow from the Studio 12 CD Rom - Picknix Collection 1  and the sentiment is from Double Sprinkle of Kraft CD. To finish off the card I added the rik rak and buttons!!

Monica - I really enjoyed this weeks challenge. I decided to use an umbrella and make it the highest point of my card, put all the attention on it. And I think I got it. Take a look. ;-) For this card I just used simple papers (gray, black and white) and let all the glamour to the umbrella, in which I used the paper from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD Rom. And to complete the card, I wrote the words "now and forever" as a raindrops. Have a great week pals! :-)

Lidia - This time I´ve made my Card with a digital image and sentiment from the brand new Federica CD the papers are from Cherry Blossom Lane CD Rom finally I added a few drops onto the base paper of my card with Glossy Accents.

Good luck with the challenge - closing date is Sunday 21 April at 12noon GMT.

Now for the challenge and this week we would like to see your Shabby Chic creations and just take a look at all the fabulous shabby chicness the Design Team have cooked up for your inspiration. We have some fab prizes this week too as all the Top 3 will receive a £10 Gift Voucher to spend in the Polka Doodles Online Shop!

Anjie For this weeks card I have used the gorgeous Sugarplum Daisy CD. The papers, image and sentiment are all from the CD. I have distressed all the edges of the papers and image with a file and then used a pink distress ink. I've then added some ribbon, flowers and pearls. I've added a bit of glitter to the wings to make them sparkle, and added some faux stitching.

Sally - This card is one of my favourites - I used the stamp which was with the Pen and Paper No.5 CD and Magazine, I decided to colour in sepia tones as I had just watched my Colour Therapy DVD.
I cut out the image using a Spellbinders die, matted her on papers from the Pen & Paper CD and edged it in lace added a lace bow and wooden button. I used more papers from the CD rom to create the background for the card. I added a sentiment and some swirly vines.

Asha - I mixed and matched 2 CDs to make this shabby chic encouragement card for a girlfriend. The beautiful papers are from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD and I picked the sentiment from the brand new Cherry Blossom Lane CD. Embellishments from my stash: cream lace, flatback pearls and soft pink mulberry roses. To complete the shabby chic look I distressed and inked the edges and did some stitching.

Karon - This week I really had to think out of the box for me; I have never made a shabby chic card before, but this is what I came up with.  I used the All Sewn Up section from the Studio 12 CD Picknix Collection 1 for my backing papers,  I have distressed the edges with a scissors and then inked.  For my flowers, leaves and sentiment, I used the new Cherry Blossom Lane CD. I layered the flowers to give them dimension and added some detail to the leaves with a stylus.  The sentiment was distressed a little and then some lace and a bow, and some pearl dots to finish off.

Astrid - I have also used two CDs, one for the paper and one for the image.
Tha image is from the CD Double Sprinkle of Kraft. The paper I used is from the CD
Cherry Blossom Lane, The gorgeous Lace is from a lovely friend, and the flowers handmade with the EK succes punch and a little bit of Distress Ink Vintage Photo.
And behind the flowers a Marianne Design Creatable LR0157.

Fliss - For my card this week, I decided to give my Alice stamp set a well deserved inking up. I stamped Alice, the curiouser sentiment and a row of toadstools on white card and coloured with a mix of Promarkers and Zig Art & Graphic markers. I trimmed round the toadstools for my corner piece. I printed out some pink and green papers from the Wonderland CD and covered the card blank with several layers distressed with an emery board. I set Alice in a frame and added pearls, faux stitching and a butterfly from Candy Doodles to finish.

Alethea - I had no idea what Shabby Chic was so I kind of fumbled around with this one!!! All the papers, images and the sentiment are from the  Studio 12 CD Picknix Collection 1 . I put this all together on the computer and printed off an extra mannequin so that I could give the card a bit of dimension!! I ditressed around the edges of the card, then added some buttons, pins and the ribbon which I inked with walnut stain distress ink!! I also added a little rhinestone and a bit of glitter on the blue buttons!!

Monica: I loved the challenge this week, I really enjoyed it.  :-) For this week I used papers from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD and embellishments from my stash: laces, pearls and strings. Good luck for all of you. xxx

Lidia - My card for this week uses elements all from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD from the All Sewn Up collection. I did some distressing with ink and added stitching. I dressed up the lovely mannequin with lace and a doily skirt and finished off with some flowers.

So there you have it and what fabulous inspiration, I'm sure you'll agree! You have until 12 noon on Sunday 24 February to get your entries in and wishing you lots of luck!

Now for the challenge and this week we would like to see your creations with:

Lots Of Layers Plus Pink And Red

You don't want to miss this opportunity to make any necessary Valentines as the prizes are the latest Cherry Blossom CD - a definite must! You have until 12 noon on Sunday 10 February to enter and now here's some fabulous inspiration from our Design Team to get you going.

Asha - The gorgeous papers for this card came from the Sugar Birdies - the first ever Polka Doodles CD. The image and sentiment are from the latest CD called Cherryblossom Lane. Isn't great when you can mix and match the CDs so beautifully? Kept my embellishments to a minimum: sheer ribbon and bow which I stained with red distress ink and a couple of red bling from my stash.

Anjie I made this weeks card for Mrs Polka Doodles' birthday. The papers are from the fabulous Studio 12 CD Picknix collection 1. I've printed them onto printable canvas to give some texture, frayed the edges and layered onto red card and kraft card. The cute image is from the new Cherry Blossom Lane CD. I've added some Marianne D diecuts, some flowers and gems. Everything is distressed with a red distress ink. Finally I've added some faux stitching.

Fliss I've made a rather romantic card this week inspired by those colours and love is definitely blooming lol. The papers and all the other elements come from the latest Cherryblossom Lane CD. I covered my card blank and added layers of panels all distressed with an emery board and inked fuchsia pink. I hand cut my hearts using paper patterns, embossing one red pearl heart with a hearts folder and layering the second one up with a lovely sentiment printed on pink stripy paper and cut to a heart shape. I finished off with a decoupaged rose.

Astrid  I have made a card with red and pink with a beautiful stamp of Polka Doodles, called
Babsie You will find her in the shop. Also with the text. The edge at the bottom comes from  the  Cherryblossom Lane CD. The flowers are handmade. And the cute little hearts from my local store.

Sally - I have made this cute card with an image, sentiments and papers from Cherry Blossom Lane CD Rom. I love all the papers on this CD Rom.  I cut him out and mounted him on a Spellbinder die which I embossed first, dusted it with pan pastels and inked the edges. Backed the papers on red cardstock and created a background.

Karon - I have used a couple of CD's to make my card this week.  First there is Winnie, from the Double Sprinkles of Kraft CD,  I coloured her with my alcohol markers and popped her up, as well as the flowers.  The patterned papers came from the new Cherry Blossom Lane CD and I have layered them up on some red card stock.  I added a little bit of tulle and a button to finish off.

Alethea - I found this theme a bit of a challenge as I'm not a fan of red and pink together so it's not
totally red and pink like some of the other cards. My images and papers are from the Cherry Blossom Lane CD and the sentiment is from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD. I used this gorgeous pre-coloured image and layered it on a spellbinders die, then finished the card with buttons, flowers, pearls and ribbon and some kindyglitz for a bit of sparkle!!

Monica - Usually I don´t use red and pink together. I think it´s hard to match them in the same project and this week was really a challenge to me. But at the end of the journey, I really liked it. I made my card this week using these two CD's: Cherry Blossom Lane CD (I love all the papers on this CD) and Studio 12 CD Picknix collection 1. Everything is distressed with brown makeup. The flower was my creation, some laces and rustic strings,  and a gem to finalize it. And as always, I wrote with my own handwriting the sentiment. Have a great week and good luck. xxx

Miria  I made this big tag using gorgeous Alice in Wonderland stamp set, you can find it on offer in the shop now :) I dabbed the manila cardstock with Distress, sprayed with water, let dry and stamped. I coloured all the images with Distress as well and cut them out. To give dimension I add some corrugated paper, die cuts and a bottle cap with a button

Anne  This week I played with the new Cherryblossom Lane CD.  This is my new favourite so all I've added was a little red ink around the edges and some bakers twine to finish the card.

Lidia  For my card this week I've used the cute fairy Maggie combined with some bright polka dot paper from the Sundae of Seasons CD . I added a glittery heart and button bow to embellish my creation.

Patty  I used a girl from Pretty Sweet CD.  My card  has 3 layers of white, red and pink and I used Prismacolor pencils to colour the girl. This is a birthday card for a little girl.

You have until 12 noon on Sunday 10 February to enter and good luck!

Good luck with the challenge - the deadline for entries is Sunday 23 December at 12noon GMT.

Kimberly - Hi there, I've made this card for a young niece of mine. She just loves birds and the outdoors. Super simple card to create. I used image from Candy Doodles COLLECTORS EDITION and papers from the Picknix Collection 1 and Picknix Collection 2, they just went so well together. Added a sentiment from Candy Doodles Collectors Edition and some elements from Picknix Collection 1 and there you have it...super sweet.

Karon - I made this for a friend who is having a birthday this month.  I used the papers from the Studio 12 CD - Picknix Collection2 Gingerbread Twist .  The sentiment "Like a snowflake..." is also from this CD, which I merged into some of the backing paper using Word.  The main papers are backed with some from my stash.  I inked all the edges of the layers and popped up the main sentiment on some foam tape. Added some tulle fabric and a snowflake to finish off.

Karen - I don't know anyone with a birthday around Christmas time, so I made a card suitable for a young adult.  The image and BP are from the Sugar Plum Daisy CD. (the sentiment is computer generated).

Asha - I made this card for a good friend whose birthday is on the 23rd and who, like me, has a sweet tooth. What better excuse to use the pre-coloured gingerbread man image and patterned paper from the PickNix Gingerbread Twist CD. I did not go out of my way to ignore all things Christmassy simply because she is a huge fan the season. Lace, twine and brads are from my stash.

Astrid - Its my mother's birthday today and I made this card for her. The paper I used is from the CD
Sundae of Seasons. Also on this CD the cake and the banners.
In the corners I used the dies from Joy Craft and also on the middle of the card.
The ribbon comes from my own collection. A few pearls in Christmas colour and the card is done.

Sally - Here is my Young Adult - Cool Yule Card - I used an image from the Pretty Tuff CD Rom
coloured him with Promarkers, printed out a fence and skateboard matted him on a snowflake
background, cut out a frame using Spellbinders label in black cardstock then matted the frame on a dotty background paper and matted that on black cardstock.

Miria  I made a quick and easy tag for a winter birthday; I used some recycled corrugated cardboard I dabbed with white acrylic. The image and sentiment are from cd Magical Winter 2, I just added some embossing, pearls, button, pompom and a clip.

Monica For a young adult and a man, less is more, I think. So, with this idea I made this card using two papers from CD Picknix 2 (the red one in the big star, and the blue one in the small star). I used some strings for cross stitch (those ones with six strings on it). I wrote with my own handwriting "Happy Birthday Wishes". But when I almost have done... it was missing something for me. So I went through my things and I found a cork and it fit perfectly. Nothing more masculine to embellish my card. Have a nice challenge all of you. xxx :-)

Alethea: I made a card for a young adult using the Hoot Download Bundle. I didn't make it for anyone in particular when I first started it but as it came together I thought I'd give it to my friend who is my age but I'd like to think we are still young adults!! :) . So the Owl, the sentiment banner, the striped banner and the flowers arre all from the Hoot Download Bundle. I then just added the rhinestones and buttons and to finish off the card added some sparkle.

Fliss: My card this week is for one of my nieces as her birthday is on New Year's Eve and she loves quilting so I decided on a sewing theme using elements and papers from the Sundae of Seasons CD. I die cut the sewing machine topper and sentiment and made a collage style creation which I know she'll like as she's very artistic.

Fabulous inspiration I'm sure you'll agree and you have until 12 noon on Sunday 23 December to enter and not miss out on those fantastic prizes. Good luck!

Good luck with the challenge - the deadline for entries is Sunday 9 December at 12noon GMT.

Kimberly: Oh I had such fun with this cd...it's Pretty Tuff and just perfect for all those little boys you need to create for. I was a little pressed for time so I chose a coloured picture. It printed out perfectly and added these adorable papers that came in the same CD. Added some Candi and some faux stitching. Super simple card..

Norine:  I needed to make a "Sorry-for-what-you're-going-through" card this week, and this sentiment from the Sugar Plum Daisy cd and papers from the Paper Boutique Projects cd seemed perfect!  I printed the sentiment three times on different patterned papers, cut them out and then pop-dotted them for some extra dimension.  The die cut embellishment is from Marianne's.

Fliss: I'm still making Christmas cards and this is one of the specials for my relatives using elements from the Here Comes Christmas CD with a vintage twist. I also flipped the sketch so Mr Snowman would be facing the right way! I coloured the gorgeous snowman (he's my fave of Nikky's so far) with Aquamarkers and was very pleased with his scarf which I made look woolly with squiggly lines and dots using the fine end. I distressed the edges of the papers with an emery board and added Vintage Photo Distress ink. I then made a hand cut icicle border using white embossing powder, glitter glue, a lilac Promarker and a snow writer.

Karon: It was my daughter's 14th Birthday on the 29th Nov - so I decided to make a card using the sketch provided.  For the main polka dot layer, the frame and tailor's dummy image, I used All Sewn Up from Picknix Collection 1 CD, I merged the three elements together in Word.  Also the same for the "You are sew sweet" sentiment and the layer for that too.  I inked all my edges of all my layers.  The dress is a little bit of wide ribbon in yellow and then a little bit more ribbon for the tie in the middle. I popped up the two front layers with foam squares.

Asha: I'm not done with my Christmas cards. This week I've picked papers and a cute image from the PickNix Gingerbread Twist CD. I coloured the gingerbread dolly with alcohol markers and fussy cut her before popping her up on some foam tape. That gorgeous poinsettia bloom is the work of Marianne Creatables Poinsettia die (LR122). To finish: thin gingham ribbon, brad and red glitter from my stash. A stress free and easy peasy card to make!

Sally - Hi there, this weeks challenge is The Sketch Challenge. So I chose a snowman image from Picknix 2 CD Rom and a backing paper. I matted and layerd the papers with red cardstock  for the background and for the rectangle. Cut an oval and embossed it with my dotty folder and distressed the edges. Stamped and cut out a sentiment, tied some snowflake ribbon around the base card, added a bow and snowflake and a little red button.

Astrid - I have used an image from the CD Collection Sundae of Seasons and coloured it with copic markers. Some stickles gold on her dress and her scarf. The paper is from the CD Picknix 2. I have cut the flowers on the paper off and added them at the top with a piece of knotted string. I used a die from Marianne Design for the flower and behind the image. And on the flower I added a pompom.

Monica - Hello people, I´m so glad to be here with my opening post at Polka Doodles blog, and for this I made a Christmas card using images from the CD Picknix 2 (the red paper on the bottom). I used a digistamp as a template to make my Santa Claus, who also came from CD Picknix 2. I wrote "Merry Christmas" with my own handwriting and with a ink pen. And to complete the design, I used some ribbons and a little pieces of string (that usually is used to make crochet) and made a lot of laces to embellish my card. I really hope you enjoy the card, because I had a lot of fun doing it. :-) Have a nice week. xxx Mon

Miria I used non traditional colours for my Christmas card; the stampie, papers and tickets are from Here Comes Christmas CD.  I die cut the nestie for the image and created faux stitching with a white gel pen; I added a ribbon and just two half-pearls.

Valou250809: For my card I used the " Winter " collection from the " Sundae of Seasons "CD. All the papers are stitched with my sewing machine. Under the image, I added a die-cut doily. For the decoration, I added bows made using the satin ribbon, some stick pin pearls, a big red rose, gems and lace. For some sparkle, I added some touches of Stickles glitter glue.

Alethea: I had lots of fun making my card this week!! I used papers from the Welcome Home and Heavenly Garden collections from the Picknix first CD and some from  CD Picnix 2. The house and the fence and sentiment are also from Welcome Home. I used the already coloured images as I'm loving experimenting with all the digital images!! I added glitter glue around the houses, added some flowers along the fence, a few rhinestones and made some shrinky dink butterflies. I wanted the fence to open so cut some slits in and  threaded the ribbon through. I just love the way it turned out.

Fabi - I've used images and papers from the Sundae Of Seasons CD, all layered up with a pretty doily, some distressed  and then decorated with some lovely flowers and foliage dusted with a little faux snow.

Patty - Here's my card for this week - I have used the sketch and sometimes I get a block when using a sketch but this was not the case with this one.  I used girl image from Pretty Sweet CD and the green paper is fom PPC5. I like very much the green & blue combination even for girls as it is so soft and sweet at the same time. I liked this girl from the first time I set eyes on the CD images, she looked so different laying on her back is like she is making exercise but not really. A hello card was perfect for this.

Lidia - I've made a Christmas card with the lovely sketch and all the elements and papers on my card are from the Here Comes Christmas CD. I used one of the lovely toppers and embellished my creation with some pretty snowflakes adding some star shaped gems and finished off with a button tied with string.

So there you have it - a gorgeous array of samples to inspire you so hoping to see you enter. You have until 12 noon on Sunday 9 December to link up your creations and good luck!
